The Global Platform by Women Artists for Women Artists
There is a 2014 BBC three-part documentary, The Story of Women, from Professor Amanda Vickery that takes us on a journey to discover a hidden world of female artistry. Her mission, to rescue female artists from centuries of misogyny. She reveals the tragedy of 16th century artist Properzia de Rossi, the triumph of 17th artist, Johanna Koerten, and the celebrated artists of the Female School of Design in the 19th century.
How much has the experience of women artists change globally since then? Today, only 13.7% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women. Of the 3,050 galleries in the Artsy database, almost half represent 25% or fewer women.
Life is a little different at Women in Art Global. Here you'll find extensive portfolios of women artists from around the world, their styles and genre as varied as their nationalities.
