Holy Basil
The Tulsi plant is a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi and is considered as the holiest of plants in the Hindu Religion. There is a hedge of Tulsi Plants around the steps leading up to our family home. It has been there growing effortlessly since I was a child. Its deep violet and green colours draw the eye, the air around the plant always smells cool and fresh and its fuzzy leaves and stems look like velvety carpets in the sun.
This piece has been on exhibition at the NCIC's Heritage Centre "Hindu symbolism" (2017).
